WESTERING hit back after being dismissed for just 121 to defeat Muir by 17 runs in an exciting schools cricket fixture in Uitenhage at the weekend.

Sent in to bat, Westering got off to a good start with a quick-fire 23 by Storm Chambel, who lost his wicket with the score on 30.

His opening partner, Keagan Bouwer (19), then worked hard to keep the batting together.

Disciplined bowling by Muir ensured that Westering lost wickets at regular intervals.

Westering had to bowl a few overs before the lunch break and this was a vital period for them as they needed to make early inroads in the Muir batting.

Spinner Morshan Norman and left-arm seamer Ryan Naidoo were able to achieve just that as Muir went into lunch on 14/3.

The visiting bowlers came out after lunch determined to ensure they kept the pressure on Muir.

With not many runs to defend, there was some tight bowling from the Westering attack as they went about their business in a disciplined manner, keeping the pressure on with good fielding and catching.

Wickets fell regularly as Muir subsided to 104 all out.

Norman picked up 3/24 and took three catches, while Naidoo claimed 3/27.

To complete a good day for Westering, the second, U15A and U14 teams all won their games as well.
