[caption id="attachment_88102" align="alignright" width="300"] STEVE KOMPHELA -[/caption]

I MUST acknowledge Steve Komphela’s appointment as new coach for Kaizer Chiefs. He came to the team where results matter.

Amakhosi have cruised to trophies in previous seasons, only to be inexplicably poor the next and players began to look expendable. Despite that, there is no obvious reason why the team should suffer a decline and failing to win something in a season would certainly be unacceptable.

The African Champions league seems not be taken seriously.

The lack of depth has been the main problem, but is not an excuse for the team’s poor finishing. Rather find a solution to resolve the matter.

He understood that this isn’t a team in danger of stagnating after years of dominance which is threatening to become decadence. But the coach seems determined to change the system beyond recognition. He would surely be treated with the utmost respect he deserves but would face wrath from supporters when the results were not coming for the team.

We are often impatient with short attention spans when the team is not doing well and the “legacy of success” he was talking about would be under immense scrutiny. Bobby Motaung has earned some respect from certain supporters for putting his heart on his sleeve when it comes to the club, but his interference sometimes deprives the coach of the opportunity to implement the philosophy. I have no doubt in my mind that he will be a success at Chiefs. -Wandile Mtana, Uitenhage
