Two robbers abandoned their getaway bakkie when the vehicle stalled as they tried to speed off after robbing a student leaving her Summerstrand home.
The student was robbed as she walked out of the front gate of her Ivana Street home.
Algoa Security operations manager Garth Rademeyer said: “As the bakkie drove past, a man with a gun got out, demanding her laptop and cellphone.”
As the robbers left, the bakkie stalled and they fled. The student was unhurt.
A case of armed robbery is under investigation.
