A NELSON Mandela Bay school which has been reduced to ruins due to vandalism and theft was the subject of heated debate at a meeting yesterday to decide what to do with it.

Tensions ran high and fingers were pointed over the fate of Masangwana Primary School which was originally abandoned because of increasing vandalism. The building was supposed to be taken over by another primary school but the security measures in place were insufficient to prevent its virtual destruction.

ANC Ward 17 councillor Ncediso Captain called the meeting to figure out what to do with the school, which has hardly any of its structures remaining.

Public Works Department regional director Johan van Dyk said R48000 per month was spent on security before the current pilfering and vandalism started taking place three months ago. - Jerome Cornelius
