WITH only 10 days before financial yearend, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has spent only 64% of its capital budget.

A budget and treasury portfolio committee meeting was given the news yesterday. Chief financial officer Trevor Harper said the biggest culprit was the infrastructure and engineering department.

The department has said previously that delays in the supply chain management department had made it difficult to spend within the prescribed period.

Also, the R272-million Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS) rollover application was only approved in February and an additional R85-million was allocated that same month.

This had given the metro only four months to spend all the money or risk losing it to national Treasury. - Rochelle de Kock
