ALLEGATIONS of a threat on his life while he was in prison, police coverups and a doctored photo to implicate him all emerged during the testimony of assault accused Brent Cunningham yesterday.

Looking considerably slimmer than before and wearing dark grey pants and a light grey shirt, Cunningham, 22, was the last witness to testify in his trial at the St Albans Prison Court.

The matter was provisionally postponed to the end of the month when another date will be finalised for judgment.

Cunningham is accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend Shireen Ballan, 36, and two of her friends – Chantel Burger and Albert Erasmus – in the early hours of December 27 2012. Cunningham handed himself over to the police days later, after a photo of Ballan's cut and bloodied face went viral on social networking sites.  -Lee-Anne Butler
