A FORENSIC probe into the financial affairs of Nelson Mandela Bay's troubled Further Education and Training (FET) colleges has been launched after staff brought to the fore allegations of corruption, nepotism and gross maladministration at the institutions.

The investigation comes after Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) director- general Gwebinkundla Qonde visited the beleaguered Port Elizabeth and Eastcape Midlands colleges last week.

While the department would not divulge details of the meetings and the investigation, National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union-affiliated staff were hopeful the meetings would bear fruit. - Zandile Mbabela
