IT is impossible to give a precise profile of a sex offender, but there are certain shared characteristics that researchers have found.
Dr Marcel Londt from the University of the Western Cape has studied sex offenders for more than three decades.
In her research she said she had found there was still much to learn, however, including how they viewed their victims and their modus operandi in entrapping those they assaulted.
She said in several court cases the one characteristic that stood out was the perpetrator's ability to focus on his victim's vulnerabilities. - Estelle Ellis
