Courts unable to stem tide of brutal attacks on children
in News by TMG Editor
EARLY last month convicted child rapist Xolile Tose was sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal attack on a six-year-old girl in 2011, but the Port Elizabeth High Court still has its share of child rape cases streaming in.
During sentencing Judge Jeremy Pickering said: "The injuries inflicted on the complainant in this case are the worst I have seen in my 20 years on the high court bench.
"The six-year-old girl, weighing a mere 20kg, was subjected to a brutal and horrifying ordeal."
The young Motherwell girl, now aged eight, was forced to undergo a series of reconstructive surgeries and wear a colostomy bag as a result of the brutal rape which the state alleges lasted over 15 hours. - Lee-Anne Butler
