EXPELLED teachers' union boss Thobile Ntola lashed out at some leaders of Cosatu and its alliance partners for selling out workers in exchange for the comfort and wealth that comes with deployment to parliament.

People who were masterminding his suspension from the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) and that of Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi in August were in parliament and "that proves something", he said.

Vavi has since been reinstated as general secretary of Cosatu following a court ruling.

"We should ask whether those in parliament are there to fight for our interests or those of their families because if we do not fight for our freedom, judging by what is happening, we will never be free [economically]," Ntola said. - Asanda Nini
