RHINO conservation efforts in the Eastern Cape received a cash injection of nearly R400000 when the proceeds of an auction were given to the Eastern Cape's Green Scorpions as part of the Save the Rhino campaign.

The R391310 cheque was handed over during a function at the Bushcamp in Kragga Kamma Road on Friday after the Royalston exclusive residential and private game reserve auctioned off a piece of its land last year.

The land was bought by Port Elizabeth's Jack family – businessman Mkhuseli and his wife Karen.

Karen, an ardent Save the Rhino campaigner, said she and her husband had attended the auction last year and were told the proceeds would go towards anti-rhino poaching initiatives.

"At first we were not sure whether we would be the lucky bidders. But at the end of the day, my husband and I thought it was a good investment. We are so proud of the fact that the money will be channelled towards anti- poaching," she said. - Hendrick Mphande
