THE Infertility Awareness Association of South Africa has renewed its campaign to lobby medical aids to pay for treatment for infertility, saying it is recognised as a disease by the World Health Organisation.
The association said medical aids did not cover treatment for infertility despite it being recognised as a disease by the WHO in 2009 and a prescribed minimum benefit disease by the Medical Schemes Act.
Ifaasa is still awaiting feedback on a submission it made to the Council of Medical Schemes three years ago in a bid to get medical aids to cover the treatment. - Estelle Ellis
