THE rise of the UDM and the EFF in the Eastern Cape is a direct result of the demise of COPE, provincial political analysts say.

Following the national and provincial elections this week, the ANC retained its majority in the province, followed by the DA, UDM and EFF.

University of Fort Hare political analyst Lwazi Lushaba said while the elections validated the dominance of the ANC in the province, the opposition parties were playing musical chairs, replacing what was the new kid on the block in 2009, with the more recent newcomer, EFF.
