THE Kings Beach Park Lake on Port Elizabeth's golden mile is an eyesore, just one year after it opened. Residents have complained that what was a pristine manmade lake with a fountain and stream is now covered in algae and green slime. The fountain and stream in the playing area are not operational and litter is scattered around the precinct. Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) officials have blamed a persistent algae problem on the summer weather.
