A TRIAL within a trial was called in the case of a Port Elizabeth businessman allegedly found in possession of 800kg of stolen copper after lawyers objected to an employee being called as a state witness.

Bradford Brown, the owner of Intozani Trading at the old Swartkops power station, appeared in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court yesterday on charges of theft or possession of stolen property, failure to keep a second-hand goods register, and acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of unlawful activity.

He pleaded not guilty but did not give a plea explanation.
