DESPITE the threat of rain the seventh annual Sunridge Village family road race attracted a field of 2200.

Zolani Ngqaqa won the 10km race men's section in a record-breaking time of 29:45.

Seventeen-year-old DF Malherbe pupil Jamie-Lee Schlemmer who runs in the colours of Absa/ NMMU running club won the women's race in 39:07. Courtney Shaw was the first female home in the 5km race with Rodney Prins winning the men's race.

The run/walk which caters for the whole family attracted a number of entrants in the fun categories.

Calvyn Ferreira and his ridgeback Nina won the dad and dog category while Neil Kennedy, pushing his two-year-old sons Morris and Benjamin, was first home in the parent and pram category. Kabega Primary won the R1000 cash prize for the school with the most bulk entries.
