EMMANUEL Grobbler moved from Walmer for a job opportunity in Motherwell and has been enjoying life in the township for almost 18 years since.

Grobbler, 54, lives in NU8 but when he first got to the area in 1994 he lived in Ramaphosa near NU1.

"When I first got here, I was not sure whether this was a good idea, but I went with it anyway just to experiment. Now I am enjoying it, I must say Motherwell is great.

"Even the crime is not that bad, I don't know whether or not I am saying this because I am used to this place. But to me it's not that bad," said Grobbler.

First resident in Ramaphosa and then in NU29, Grobbler moved to his current residence in NU8 where he also met his wife Thenjiwe Heshu, 42, three years ago.

Grobbler lost several members of his family a few years ago – first his brother in 1986, followed by both his parents in a car accident in 1996. He is left with a sister but with whom he has lost contact.

"I am not sure where my sister is, we lost contact about seven years ago, the last time I checked she was in Durban.

"So the only family I have now is my wife, and we don't have any children together it is just the two of us," said Grobbler, who makes his living as a mechanic and said he really enjoys his work.
