DUE to growing demand for performances and their future projects, EduPuppets will be hosting an audition workshop next week to assist in the search for suitable candidates to join their team.

"We need passionate individuals, who are serious about making an impact on society through what we do," Stacey Kay of EduPuppets said.

"We are not specifically looking for people with drama experience as I do believe there are some rough diamonds out there who have the ability, but have never had the opportunity to discover their talents.

"Although our main aim is to find young adults for our weekly shows, we are giving high school pupils an opportunity to gain experience and pocket money for holiday or weekend event performances," Kay said. "It is always an advantage but not a requirement to be able to sing or dance to be part of our crew.

"I am hoping to find some very crazy, entertaining and talented people."

EduPuppets will soon be presenting a new children's story time segment on the Big1Up show on Bay TV. The audition workshop will also be filmed to form part of the series whereby successful candidates secure themselves the opportunity to work in television.

The orientation will be held at the Boardwalk Amphitheatre on Monday June 23 at either 11am or 4pm to register for the workshops which will be as follows:

June 24: Puppetry 101 workshop

For candidates 16 to 18 years old: 3pm to 5.30pm

June 25: Puppetry drama workshop

For candidates 18 and over: 11am to 3pm; candidates 16 to 18: 3pm to 5:30pm

June 26: Puppetry 101 and drama workshop

For candidates 18 and over: 11am to 3pm, candidates 16 to 18: 3pm to 5:30pm.

On Monday June 30, there are auditions at the Boardwalk Amphitheatre where candidates perform shows for the public on the hour from 10am to 3pm, guided by facilitators.

Successful candidates will be announced after the final show.

The public are invited to show their support and provide the candidates with an audience for the live audition rounds on June 30. The live audience will also have a say in the final votes.

One lucky candidate from the winning team will be accompanying EduPuppets to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown from July 2 to 13. For more info visit: www.edupuppets.co.za
