THE Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum is staging an exhibition – Journeys in Beadwork: the Art of the Mfengu – from Wednesday next week and will host a walkabout for the public the following day.

For generations beadwork has been a salient feature of clothing and accessories worn by indigenous peoples in Southern Africa.

Journeys in Beadwork explores the fascinating history of Eastern Cape beadwork, with a special focus on the historical beadwork of the Mfengu.

In celebration of Heritage Month, the museum is inviting all to attend a walkabout of the exhibition on Thursday at 4pm in the Arts Hall of the NMM Art Museum at 1 Park Drive. Those interested are asked to RSVP by Wednesday.

There are no admission charges but donations are welcome. Contact the museum on (041)506-2000 or e-mail: artmuseum@mandelametro. gov.za
