Eating contest in poor taste

WITH reference to "Competition a mouthful for big eaters" (July 11), I find Mulligans's burger eating promo "distasteful". Call me a killjoy if you like, but proving what a glutton you are is hardly an art or in good taste.

Ken Claasen was obviously enjoying the free publicity that he was expecting Herald readers to digest.

Here's a challenge to our "event organising" publican:

Walmer is in close proximity to some of the poorest areas in the city. Maybe a sponsored feast for some of the little ones in that area would be a fair way to spend the R50 entrance fee and the profits generated from the purchases of more and more "liquids of choice" consumed by his big eating participants and their eager supporters.

Now there's a Mandela Day idea. Wow, event organising's easy. Laugh out loud!
