No quick-fix solution to heartbreaking unemployment challenge

The chaotic scenes which played out at the City Hall last week when hundreds of people pitched up to apply for a few Expanded Public Works Programme jobs are indicative of the desperation of the large numbers of unemployed in the country.

Some of the hopefuls had been queuing since midnight in the hope of being the first to score application forms, but a lack of organisation saw people pushing, shoving and fighting for the prized piece of paper...
