Madibaz shoot to top of league log

VODACOM NMMU Madibaz scored a convincing 4-1 win over Motherwell Academy at their south campus on Friday evening to become undisputed log-leaders in the Pefa Premier League.

After scoring their first win of the season last week, Motherwell looked set to continue from where they left off when they took an early lead.

But the students were on level terms within minutes when Zukisani Mtendeni equalised.

After the break Kurt Duff gave Madibaz the lead for the first time.

Following the equaliser, the students totally outplayed Motherwell, with Cloudius Sagandira helping himself to a brace.

On Saturday Callies scored a close 2 -1 win over PE Defence at the EC Command field.

Callies were the first on the score sheet when Razaan Safedien found the back of the net virtually from the kick-off. Undaunted, Defence pushed ahead and were soon on level terms.

Midway in the second half Defence conceded a free-kick just outside the penalty area.

The Defence keeper watched helplessly as Kurt Petersen fired in the shot. And despite being reduced to 10 men after one of their players was red-carded for a second caution, Defence took the fight to Callies but failed to get the equaliser.

In a close contest at the Westbourne Oval, Highbury beat NMB Municipality 1-0 with a second-half strike by Xolani Mahola.

On Sunday, Forresters dropped to fourth on the log after being beaten 2-0 by Warriors.

Nevan Gardner and Wayne Gilbert scored a goal apiece in the first half.

Results: Vodacom NMMU Madibaz 4 Motherwell Academy 1, NMB Municipality 0 Highbury 1, PE Defence 1 Callies 2, Forresters 0 Warriors 2.
