Mr Wrestling blows Tornado off throne

THERE was a major shock when Mr Wrestling was crowned the new World Wrestling Professionals (WWP) world heavyweight champion when he beat Tornado in a title duel in front of 3000 excited fans at Pearson High School on Saturday night.

"I am at a loss for words because this is a huge upset. There was silence in the locker room afterwards because this was a result nobody expected," WWP chief executive Mark Beale said afterwards.

The wrestling world was turned upside down when brute brawler Mr Wrestling claimed the title after pinning Tornado in dramatic fashion in the 17th minute of a fiery contest.

The aggressive Tornado has held the belt for five years, and he is expected to mount a serious challenge to reclaim the belt which he regards as his own.

"Mr Wrestling was always going to be a tough contender as he is the current WWP All Africa champion. Now he is the WWP world champion he will have to relinquish his African title," Beale said.

Mr Wrestling will now have to defend his title within six months because of a contract signed between the two fighters.

"At the moment it looks as though Mr Wrestling will defend his title for the first time in India.

"I want to thank the people who came out to show their support for the matmen. The is one of the most successful tournaments staged in the Metro," Beale said. - George Byron
