Good win for Brandwag against Gill

BRANDWAG registered a convincing 45-14 victory against Gill College in their rugby clash in the Gill Sports Day in Somerset East at the weekend.

Brandwag ran in seven tries to Gill's two, with wings Brandon Fouche and right wing Davian Swanepoel scoring two tries each.

The other try-scorers for Brandwag were replacement hooker Dandre Delport, centre Wian Engelbrecht and replacement flyhalf Rivan Lemmer. Flyhalf Shevaan Hendriks kicked three conversions before being substituted.

In his absence, fullback Jeandre van Ghent succeeded with another two conversions.

For Gill right wing Robin Sammy scored a try in the first half and flank Ryno Kruger crossed during the second half. Centre Warwick Meaker converted both tries.

The halftime score was 14-7 to Brandwag.

  • In other schools rugby action at the weekend, Noord Kaap scored a significant 27-16 win over Marlow, while Nico Malan shaded Oudtshoorn 19-12.
Union High also started their season well with a solid 29-19 win over St Andrew's School, of Bloemfontein.
