Letter: Facilities not adequate, so limit students

SURELY Sirion Robertson has hit the nail on the head (“Tighten up on admissions”, April 29).

NMMU has difficulty in finding accommodation for students. Students need to sit on the floor of lecture rooms because numbers are too big to be accommodated in existing facilities.

Failure rates are as high as 80%. Graduates (with a questionable degree because of alleged lowered standards) are unable to find jobs.

Please don’t blame the universities, as has been the continued practice. These universities are, on the whole, run by highly educated and skilled personnel who would surely not condone what is happening.

No, it is certainly government policy, which like so many policies, are to be lauded in principle but are woefully administered in practice.
