Crossing doesn't stop speeding

IF it is not too much of an inconvenience to the overworked Nelson Mandela Bay traffic officials, I would like to enquire about speed law enforcement, particularly in the lower Circular Drive vicinity, from Fig Tree Shopping Centre to about Walter Road traffic light intersection. With the kind assistance of the ward councillor, Retief Odendaal, the NMBM roads department graciously agreed to install a raised pedestrian crossing, opposite the entrance to the shopping centre.

This has unfortunately had no effect on the speed of vehicles travelling up and down this area. Cars, and particularly motorbikes, travel at horrific speeds, well more than double the posted limit of 60km/h, and are hitting the raised zebra crossing without decreasing speed at all.

The crossing was installed due to the frequent crossing of pedestrians from the neighbouring MTR Smit Children's Home and pensioner complex.

I'm afraid that people take their lives in their hands using this crossing, as certain motorists totally ignore the crossing.

In the year and a half that I have lived here, not once have I seen traffic officers enforcing the speed limit, in Circular Drive.
