TAKE ACTION ON PIKOLI REPORT

CITY manager Mpilo Mbambisa and the newly appointed premier, Phumulo Masualle, must follow up and see to it that the plan to "bring to book" all those implicated in the scandal of stealing R6.7-million are sent to St Albans Prison waiting trial soon, like any other criminal. This has been treated with kid gloves for too long now.

EFFICIENT WORK BY CONTRACTORS

A COMPLIMENT to contractors Scribante Construction and Wynford Civils on the execution of the resurfacing in Beach Road from Walmer Boulevard to S-Bend. Under trying conditions with rainy weather and traffic, you did exceptionally well to accommodate the traffic. For a few hours we had to have patience while you did your best to finish the southbound section. Hope the weather does not interfere this coming week. Thanks again for your efficiency.

CAPITALIST-FRIENDLY SA COULD GROW

SOUTH Africa's economy slips to almost zero growth. Under "evil" white rule that was capitalist friendly, the powerhouse of Africa was growing (sanctions aside). Under black "worker friendly" communist rule, and staunchly anti-capitalist, growth is stagnating. Now a corruption-free black, "capitalist friendly" government, not kowtowing to unions, and no restrictive labour laws and racist affirmative action? There could be seven to 8% growth and real jobs.

HUNT DOWN BOKO HARAM KIDNAPPERS

THESE Boko Haram cowards must bring back our little girls. They are innocent, sweet angels. The world must unite and hunt down these people from whatever jungle they are hiding in.

TRAFFIC PROBLEMS

TRAFFIC fines: how many spot fines have been issued and how many arrests made for taxis stopping in the traffic lights area, seriously disrupting traffic, outside The Boardwalk around 5pm?

MA

MR Totoyi, the amount outstanding due to unpaid fines could be so much more if only your officers stopped allegedly accepting bribes and gifts.

I NO

IT is frightening to see the number of vehicles with faulty headlights, taillights and/or brake lights, not to mention no front number plates, doing illegal U-turns and jumping red lights – the list goes on and on. Mr Totoyi, together with your assistant director, you run a truly inefficient and ineffective traffic law enforcement department. Bring on the DA.

REPLIES TO READERS' COMMENTS

ANNETTE Lovemore, Piet Naude was clearly implying the hoard of nominated ANC parliamentarians.

PW

PE resident is "sick to death of protest action". How has protest action affected you personally? You want "SAPS to step in and take a serious stance". Are you calling for another Marikana? You think the "government has created a sense of entitlement among its people", an attitude of "we must get what we want". Don't you think people are entitled to what they need? Food, shelter? Do you have hot water, lights, a flush loo, nutritious food? You say protesters must "sit around a table and negotiate" as that is how it is done in a "civilised community". Top ANC leaders pleaded with the National Party government for years to sit around the table! I guess DF Malan, JG Strijdom, HF Verwoerd, BJ Vorster and PW Botha were just too uncivilised to agree? In a "civilised community" the cries of the downtrodden are heard, we stop riding roughshod over people, we stop moaning, we empathise. Maybe step in and help?

POOL SURROUNDS OVERGROWN

WHAT is happening at the Newton Park swimming pool? Surrounding grass verges and parking areas are overgrown. What is the complex manager doing? Looks like nothing!

SECOND DAY WITHOUT ELECTRICITY

INFORMAL settlements have an electricity service and tax-paying residents not. This is day two that we in Booysen Park Drive sit without electricity. I spoke to Carl Hemle at NMMM, but he said he couldn't help us, because it was a headache.
