53-year-old rapist sentenced to life

A 53-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Port Elizabeth High Court today, following a lengthy investigation and court process of more than six years.
Wellington Mboniswa raped an 11-year-old girl in January 2011 in New Brighton.
“The expert investigation by the Motherwell Family Violence and Sexual Offences Unit investigators ensured that justice was served for the now 18-year-old victim,” police said today.
It was also ordered by the High Court that Mboniswa’s name be recorded in the National Register for Sexual Offenders.
