Pistorius conman due in court

A man who allegedly told Oscar Pistorius he could quash his murder conviction in exchange for R250,000 is expected to appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old man was arrested in a sting operation on Friday, said Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

He allegedly impersonated a National Prosecuting Authority official and called Pistorius on Thursday night, demanding R250,000 from the former Paralympian to make his murder conviction disappear.

The Hawks dispatched a team to deal with the family. During the operation the man was given R40,000 in cash before being arrested next to the High Court in Pretoria.

He would face a charge of corruption.

Pistorius is expected to be sentenced on April 18 for the February 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
