Crystal meth worth R10m seized at OR Tambo

A haul of crystal meth worth nearly R10-million was intercepted in the luggage of an inbound passenger at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) on Monday.

The 47-year-old female suspect had arrived on a South African Airways flight from Accra‚ Ghana at 6.20am when members discovered the drugs.

“The team at OR Tambo International Airport is working tirelessly to detect and decisively deal with criminality‚ particularly with regards to drug trafficking‚ at this airport‚ a police statement said.

“Despite the successes in this regard‚ drug mules continue to attempt to smuggle drugs through this port of entry‚ compelling authorities at the airport to remain vigilant at all times.”

The suspect is due to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
