New mayor promises to slash unnecessary expenditure

MINUTES after stepping into office, mayor Danny Jordaan yesterday vowed to make the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality tighten its belt, promising to slash unnecessary spending such as overseas trips for officials and local politicians.

Jordaan delivered his first official speech to a jubilant crowd of ANC supporters, cabinet ministers, MECs and councillors who packed a special council meeting at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton.

Jordaan laid down his vision for what he said would be a challenging last stretch to next year’s municipal elections.
