Revival plan for Baakens Valley

Project to make historic area a place to work, play and live

BOLD plans for a massive retail hub, a pedestrian bridge, social housing and a parking garage to feed into the inner city have been unveiled as part of the major facelift due for Nelson Mandela Bay’s Baakens Valley area.

The long-awaited master plan for the envisaged Baakens Valley Precinct, spearheaded by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), was revealed at a gathering at the Bridge Street Brewery yesterday.

The plan is not yet set in stone and still needs council approval, with the municipality to lobby funding from the national Treasury on behalf of the MBDA.
