Shoppers in mall terror

Child flees from gun gang’s rampage

Little Jamie de Wet screamed in terror, crying for her mother.

Around the 11-year-old, automatic machinegun fire shattered display windows, hitting shoppers, as robbers ambushed cash-intransit guards leaving a bank in a shopping mall yesterday.

As guards and the gunmen exchanged gunfire inside the Bedford Centre in eastern Johannesburg, Jamie separated from her mother’s friend Linda Moore, and ran as fast she could.

Miraculously none of the bullets fired by the gunmen, who were close by, hit her. Moore managed to run after her and grabbed her as she ran towards the gunfire.
