Dewani surfed gay sex websites

SHRIEN Dewani was surfing gay sex-fetish websites the day after the body of his new bride was discovered. The millionaire UK businessman had also logged onto the sites while on honeymoon.

Dewani made these admissions in a document handed to the Cape Town High Court, where he is standing trial for his wife Anni's 2010 murder.

According to the documents, the Bristol businessman was a registered member of the Gaydar website and a premium-paying member of Recon, a website for men into fetish gear, for several years.

Recon describes itself as the definitive destination for guys looking to find real men and says it has more than half-a-million hard and kinky members in more than 100 countries.

Dewani said he became a member on August 13 2004 and his account was deactivated on November 21 2010, the day of Anni's funeral in the UK.

His Gaydar account was deactivated on the same day. When Dewani and his bride had waited in Johannesburg for a connecting flight to Cape Town – after completing a safari in Gauteng – he had bought internet data to the value of R115.

Exactly one minute later, he was on Gaydar.

"The records of the Gaydar website show that on November 12 2010, my computer was signed onto the Gaydar website from 1.06 pm to 1.18pm and again from 1.40pm to 1.46pm South African time," Dewani said in the documents. He admitted that on November 15 – a day after Anni was found dead – he was logged onto both websites for hours. Dewani even visited the websites the next day.

It was the day he reportedly paid shuttle operator Zola Tongo R1000.

Tongo, who is serving an 18-year-sentence for helping to orchestrate the murder, claims this was his payment for the killing.

In his plea explanation handed to the court on Monday, Dewani came clean about his sexuality.

"I have had sexual interaction with both males and females. I consider myself to be bisexual. My sexual interactions with males were mostly physical experiences or e-mail chats with people I met online or in clubs, including prostitutes such as Leopold Leisser," he said.

Yesterday, The Daily Telegraph reported that Dewani had been in a relationship with a British parliamentary aide.

It is widely speculated that Leisser and the aide will testify.

In court yesterday, Mzwamadoda Qwabe, who is serving a 25-year sentence for Anni's murder, told how quickly they had hatched a plan to kill a total stranger.

Tongo met Dewani at the Cape Town International Airport on November 12. There, he allegedly conspired with Tongo to have Anni killed. About 24 hours later, there was a bullet in her neck.

Qwabe said Tongo had called him on the day the couple arrived in Cape Town.

"Zola said there was a husband who wanted his wife to be killed," Qwabe told the court casually.
