Chatty worker shot in leg during robbery at shop

A SHOP employee was wounded during a robbery in Chatty, Port Elizabeth, yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Captain Johan Rheeder said three men robbed the Disnila Mini Market shortly after 7am.

"One of the employees was standing outside and the owner was inside. The entrance gate was still locked as they had not yet opened for business," Rheeder said.

"The men then held the employee who was standing outside at gunpoint and demanded that the owner open the gate. As the gate opened, the gunmen shot the man in the leg and stole various items and an undisclosed amount of money from the store."

Rheeder said the men fled on foot.The 27-year-old employee was taken to Livingstone Hospital.

A case of armed robbery and attempted murder is being investigated. – Gareth Wilson
