Students held after protests

PORT Elizabeth College students were arrested yesterday after ignoring a court interdict and demonstrating at the institute's three campuses. Five students from the Dower campus were arrested and taken to the Bethelsdorp police station, while their Russell Road counterparts were held at the Humewood police station and later released. The Dower campus students were charged with public violence and malicious damage to property and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court today. Two students laid assault complaints against two policemen after one of them was allegedly slapped across the face and another allegedly manhandled during the protest. -
