Three die in dam tragedy

AN outing ended tragically yesterday when three people – two of them children – drowned in the George Dam.

The victims were a man aged 26, a girl aged 13 and a nine-year-old boy.

A National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesman said the Wilderness NSRI crew were called to the dam at 1.50pm to assist police.

"The sea rescue craft conducted a surface search while rescue swimmers did free dive searches in an effort to find the three who had reportedly disappeared under water.

"[We] managed to recover three bodies."

The spokesman said the victims, all from George, were declared dead on the scene.

The names have not yet been released.
