Teen held for brutal murder of toddler

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has been arrested in connection with the horrific murder and suspected rape of a two-year-old boy in Port Elizabeth at the weekend.

Toddler Hlumelo Nobebe was still learning to talk when his life was cut savagely short – allegedly by the teenager his family knew well.

On Sunday afternoon, the body of the child was found half naked and kneeling with his hands against the wall of a house only a block away from his Soweto-on-Sea home.

The 16-year-old told the toddler's mother, Lumka Nobebe, 39, of his death, but the teenager was later arrested.

Hlumelo had been playing with two cousins outside his home on Sunday but the cousins returned without him.

"I immediately went outside to look for him, because they are always together, and he was nowhere to be found. I went to every house I know [where] he had friends, but my little son was not there," Nobebe said. - Yoliswa Sobuwa
