New call to suspend Bay audit boss Chan

COUNCILLOR Mongameli Bobani of the UMD wants Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality internal audit boss Bonnie Chan suspended and probed for alleged racial discrimination, nepotism, favouritism and irregular recruitment processes.

It is not the first time Bobani has accused Chan of being racist.

In 2012, after questioning Chan at a municipal public accounts committee (MPAC) in 2012, Bobani, ANC councillors Marion Harning and Joy Seale made the same accusation.

Chan is suing the three for R1-million after they accused her of having tampered with the recruitment process to hire a white, man friend in an affirmative action post in her department.

This week, Bobani submitted a motion of exigency to the MPAC.

Bobani's call comes as city manager Mpilo Mbambisa said he had asked Chan to investigate how IPTS funds had been spent.

Bobani and the ANC have been leading the charge against what they claim is the unfair targeting of a black-owned company which benefited from the IPTS. - Mkhululi Ndamase
