Court tells woman to return engagement ring

A PORT Elizabeth woman has been ordered to return her engagement ring to her ex-fiancé after the short relationship came to an acrimonious end.

Details of the stormy union between John Killik and Roeshda Panday played out in the Port Elizabeth High Court, with Judge Elna Revelas finally ruling that all gifts, barring small tokens of affection, needed to be returned to Killik.

Revelas said in any event, the couple's engagement was void because Panday was still legally married to another man.

Killik, a well-known businessman, was suing for the return of the ring and furniture valued at about R100000.

The two-year relationship was described in court papers as stormy.

On more than one occasion, after a quarrel broke out between the two, Killik removed all his furniture from Panday's home and loaded it onto a truck. When they made up again, he took the items back to her home. - Kathryn Kimberley
