Run against abuse set to wow city

FUN run enthusiasts in Nelson Mandela Bay will have the opportunity to get their groove on when a 5km Wow (Women of Worth) run comes to the city next month.

The Wow run will start with a marching band and finish with a zumba dancing session at Kings Beach on Saturday August 9 – the same day South Africa celebrates National Women's Day.

Organiser Jason Gabriel said the run was about celebrating happiness and freedom, while giving further momentum to the fight against women and child abuse.

"Men can run to make this day memorable for the women in their lives. The fun continues after the finish line.

"The goal is to mimic the professional zumba dancers. Those not in the mood to zumba will be pampered with head, shoulder and hand massages."

Gabriel said after the success of the Chocolate Run he had decided to do the new fun run to keep awareness going.

Tickets are R100 for the race and free entry for children under 12 years of age.

The first 1000 pre-entrants will receive a T-shirt and the first 1000 who cross the finishing line will receive a medal.

Proceeds will go to the MTR Smit Children's Haven. Entry forms can be found online at - Thulani Gqirana
