J-Bay blaze claims three lives

THREE people died in a shack fire in Jeffreys Bay early yesterday.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said a neighbour, watching soccer at about 1am, noticed smoke coming from the Tuma Street shack.

"He went to investigate and found the shack engulfed by flames," she said.

"From what we can ascertain, the grandmother, her daughter and a child were inside the shack at the time."

Swart said charred human remains were found in the debris.

An inquest docket has been opened. No foul play is suspected. – Gareth Wilson
