'I was in church' – shooting accused

A SUSPECTED gang member facing two counts of attempted murder told the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court yesterday he was a church-going businessman who simply lived in a bad neighbourhood.

Jermaine de Souza, 29, of Gelvandale, was testifying in his bail application following his arrest in connection with a shooting on February 28.

De Souza, a suspected member of the Upstand Dogs gang, was allegedly seen driving the vehicle from which shots were fired at two men in Stebonheath Road, Sydenham. He was arrested on March 29. - Kathryn Kimberley
