More than 800 wait for surgery at two Bay hospitals

THERE are more than 800 patients on the waiting list for non-emergency surgeries at Port Elizabeth's Livingstone and Provincial hospitals.

More than half of those are children – 220 children are awaiting surgery at Livingstone and 300 at Provincial.

Health MEC Sicelo Gqobana revealed this in a reply to the Eastern Cape legislature this week.

The surgery waiting list has doubled since it was made public by the Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, in 2010. - Estelle Ellis
