Thieves hinder school revamp

THE excitement staff and pupils at a Nelson Mandela Bay primary school felt when work finally started on getting their dilapidated building revamped has been dampened by thieves who keep stripping the school.

Dr AW Habelgaarn Primary School, in Chatty, was last week given new contractors, LKT Building and Civil, to finish off work already started by another last year, who subsequently went missing.

The new construction company is owned and managed by Bay businesswoman Liz Prins. The school has been on the Education Department's priority list for schools to be rebuilt or renovated for a number of years before the Public Works Department got the work started. - Zandile Mbabela
