Joemat-Pettersson announces 13 additional private sectors energy bidders

The private sector has pumped R193-billion into renewable energy since 2011 and has created an extra 6327MW of eco-friendly power.

R19.1-billion of the total has been committed to socio-economic development and R6-billlion on enterprise development.

This is according to energy minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson‚ who announced the names of 13 additional private sectors bidders for the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

The bid window for these 13 producers will alleviate the national energy grid of 1084MW‚ said Joetmat-Pettersson in Johannesburg.

“The co-ordinated approach between government and the private sector to establish renewable energy development projects is making a positive impact on the socio-economic growth of South Africa. This is a clear message that we will overcome challenges by standing together‚” said the department of energy’s Ompi Aphane.

The additional bidders include wind and solar energy plants‚ like the Soetwater Wind Farm (139 MW)‚ the Garob Wind Farm (136MW) and the Waterloo Solar Park (75MW).

“With this programme South Africa is moving towards providing sustainable energy solutions and we believe it will position the country as a global player for alternative solutions that will ultimately unlock Africa’s potential‚” said Aphane.
