Retirement village suspect held
A man suspected to have broken into the Buffelsfontein Retirement Village on two occasions and attacked and robbed elderly residents has been arrested.
Thembelani Ntantiso, 31, appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Friday after being detained earlier in the week.
In court, Ntantiso was charged with three separate house robberies which took place at the Algoa Bay Council for the Aged-run village in November.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Ntantiso had been arrested inside the court building on Wednesday when he went to court to bail out his sister.
“Detectives received a tip-off that the man wanted for the attacks was going to court to pay bail for his sister. His sister was arrested earlier in the week for another crime,” she said.
“Detectives went to court and found the suspect inside. He never got to post bail for his sister and was detained.”
“The suspect [Ntantiso] is linked to all three attacks at the village.”
She said more arrests were expected soon.
Ntantiso is due to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court again on Monday for a bail application.
