Cops chase down Bridge Street robbers

Three men who allegedly robbed Bridge Street Brewery in Bridge Street, South End, on Friday morning were arrested after trying to escape by running through the Baakens Valley.
The robbery took place at 8.30am, after which the robbers ran along the Baakens Valley – towards Govan Mbeki Avenue in Central – in an attempt to use the bushes as cover.
Police and security cordoned off the area, eventually catching all three.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said two suspects had been caught in bushes near Produce Street after surrendering when they were surrounded.
“Two men entered the business making inquiries about employment. While doing so, one of the men pulled out a firearm and another a knife.
“The 28-year-old staff member was then threatened to comply by handing over money and his cellphone,” she said.
“The men then confronted another employee and demanded he also hand over his cellphone.
“The men then stole an undisclosed amount of money.”
Naidu said a third suspect was believed to have been waiting outside. He also managed to escape and climbed a cliff towards Fort Frederick.
“A chase ensued and the suspect was arrested in Cuyler Street.”
