Banyana give it all to secure late victory

A late goal from Jermaine Seoposenwe saw Banyana Banyana record their second consecutive win in the Cosafa Women’s Championship on Friday at Wolfson Stadium.
The hard-fought win puts the SA side on top of the table in group A with six points.
Ahead of the clash coach Desiree Ellis admitted that their match against Botswana would not be an easy one as both sides knew each other’s strengths.
She said the fixture was important for them and on Friday Banyana played their hearts out to get the necessary points.
Banyana have one more game in hand in the group stages, which is against Malawi on Monday at Wolfson Stadium.
The national side looked a bit relaxed in the first half and gave Botswana too much room to play.
The home side tried to open the score sheets as early as in the 10th minute but Jermaine Seoposenwe’ s strike went wide.
Banyana were awarded a free kick but it was cleared by Botswana in the 18th minute.
The score line was 0-0 at the break.
The second half started a bit slowly but the Banyana side warmed up and started knocking on Botswana’s goal posts in search of an opener.
However, most of their attempts were cleared by the Botswana defence.
In the 53rd minute Chrestinah Kgatlana’s attempt at goals went over the crossbar.
The national side received a penalty in the 58th minute but Nompumelelo Nyandeni’s strike was saved by Botswana goalkeeper Maitumelo Bosija.
Throughout the second half Banyana were on Botswana’s side of the field as they kept on pushing in an attempt to break the deadlock.
It was Seoposenwe who broke the deadlock in the dying minutes of the game.
