University celebration of international diversity at the Donkin Village and on campus
Nelson Mandela University is inviting students and non-students to a celebration of international diversity at the Donkin Village in Port Elizabeth next week.
The NMU Office for International Education is hosting the International Culture Fest on Saturday, August 18 from 11am to 3pm at the Donkin Village Heritage Café, following events throughout International Diversity Week from August 13-18.
The Culture Fest forms part of the university’s annual International Diversity Week and aims to involve the Bay community in the university’s cultural activities and showcase the international diversity on and off campus.
It’s also aimed at developing awareness of different cultures on NMU campuses and in the city and promote intercultural understanding, tolerance and mutual respect.
“At Nelson Mandela University we have about 1,500 international students from 84 countries,” NMU International Education Office public relations, events and international visitors representative Janine Wagenaar said.
“Students from 14 of these countries will manage food stalls and hand out samples of their traditional cuisine – free of charge – to the visitors.”
“In addition, students will exhibit information, souvenirs, paraphernalia, artifacts and illustrations which best represent their countries.
“Visiting these stalls will guarantee attendees an authentic experience of the following countries: France, Lesotho, Botswana, Czech Republic, Tanzania, Kenya, Germany, Nigeria, Zambia, Cameroon, Belgium, DRC, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.”The programme for International Diversity Week is as follows.
